Slip Knot
Everything starts with a slip knot…
Grasp yarn near one end of ball between thumb and forefinger of left hand.
With right hand form yarn into a loop with the long end hanging down behind.
Hold loop in place between thumb and forefinger of left hand.
Insert hook through loop and under yarn.
Catch yarn with hook.
Draw loop through.
Pull short end in opposite direction to bring loop close round the end of the hook.
