You will need –

  • Aran weight cotton yarn in various colours. (I used mainly Drops Paris and Paintbox Cotton Aran)

  • Chunky Fur Yarn – I used one ball of Rowan Fur in the colour Polar (available from Wool Warehouse)
  • 5mm and 7mm crochet hooks
  • 40cm x 40cm cushion pad

Description

Making your squares

  • Before starting read the pattern through.
  • Using Aran weight yarn and a 5mm crochet hook make 32 granny squares of 3 rounds – pattern here.
  • On the squares, at the end of round 3, sl st into the nearest space between clusters (you can turn and work with the back of your square facing you to do this if you want to).
  • *Ch3, sl st into the next space; rep from * all around the square until you are back in the same square as you started in.  Treat the corner spaces just the same as the side spaces. Fasten off and sew in all ends.
  • To clarify, you will have made 9 ch3 loops around your granny square.

Joining your squares

Joining rows 1, 2 and 3
  • Hold your granny squares with the wrong sides together and with a 7mm hook, join your Chunky Fur yarn in their corresponding corner spaces with a sl st.
  • Work 2 sc in each of the next 3 ch loops (Joining the squares as you go.)
  • At the end of that granny square work a sc into the corner granny spaces, grab your next 2 squares.
  • *1sc into corner space, 2sc into next 3 ch loops, 1sc into corner space. (grab the next squares)
  • Repeat from * 2 times more to finish the joining row.  Fasten off.
Joining rows 4, 5 and 6
  • Join these rows in the same way as rows 1, 2 and 3, but work an extra ch over the fur joins as you come to them between squares at the joints.
Joining front to back
  • Hold your front and back squares wrong sides together.
  • Join fur yarn into the corresponding corner spaces.
  • *(sc, ch2, sc) in the corner space, then work along the side just as you worked joining rows 4, 5 and 6.
  • Rep from * for other 3 sides popping your cushion pad inside on the last joining row to enclose it.
  • Fasten off.
