Project Description

You will need oddments of yarn – any weight will do just adjust your hook size accordingly.  I have used dk yarn and a 4 mm hook.

The following instructions use US crochet terminology and standard abbreviations.

Special abbreviations –

dc 3 tog –  yo, insert hook into ch space, pull up a loop, yo and pull through 2 loops (2 loops on hook), yo, insert hook into ch space, pull up a loop,  yo and pull through 2 loops (3 loops on hook), yo, insert hook into ch space, pull up a loop, yo and pull through 2 loops (4 loops on hook), yo and pull through all remaining loops on hook.

1st dc 3 tog – ch 2 (counts as 1st dc ), yo, insert hook into ch space, pull up a loop,  yo and pull through 2 loops 2 loops on hook), yo, insert hook into ch space, pull up a loop, yo and pull through 2 loops (3 loops on hook), yo and pull through all remaining loops on hook.

1. Ch. 4; join into a ring. Ch 3 (counts as 1st dc); work 11 more dc in ring.  Join to top of ch 3 with a sl st.  (12 sts)

2. Ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), *ch 1, dc – rep from * 10 times more then ch 1 and join to top of ch 3 with a sl st. (12 dc and 12 ch1 spaces).

3. In a ch 1 space work your 1st dc 3 tog, ch 2, * in next ch space work a dc 3 tog, ch 2 – rep from * 10 times more.  Join with a sl st into top of 1st dc 3 tog.

4. In a ch 2 space, ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), 3 dc, * in next ch 2 space 4 dc – rep from * 10 times more.  Join with a sl st into top of ch 3.

5. In the 1st st of the 4 dc from the row below, ch 2 (counts as hdc), 7 sc, * [hdc, ch 2, hdc] in next st, 7 sc – rep from * 4 times more,  work 1 hdc into same st as 1st ch 2, ch 2 and join with a sl st to top of ch 2.

6. ch 1 (counts as 1st sc), 8 sc, * [hdc, ch 2, hdc] in ch space, 9 sc – rep from * 4 times more, [hdc, ch 2, hdc] in ch space.  Sl st into top of ch 1.  Fasten off.

You can work each row in different colours, but I would encourage you to experiment by keeping a few rows the same colour as this changes the whole look of the motif.  The pink and red example below used red for row 1 and 2, pink for row 3, white for row 4 and then a soft pale grey for rounds 5 & 6.  The purple/green/blue example above uses different  colours for each round.
