Project Description

These versatile little squares can be made with any weight of yarn, just adjust your hook size accordingly (use whatever is recommended on the yarn label).

I made the sample with various stashed DK cotton/cotton mix yarn, and a 4 mm hook.

I use standard US crochet terms.

Abbreviations

ch/s – chain/s

st/s – stitch/es

sl st – slip stitch

sc – single crochet

hdc – half double crochet

dc – double crochet

htr – half treble crochet (yarn over twice and insert hook into next stitch, yarn over and pull through loop, yarn over pull through 2 loops, yarn over and pull through remaining 3 loops)

DIRECTIONS

Step 1: Chain 5 (fig. 1)

Step 2. Work 13 htr into 5th ch from hook. Join with a sl st into top of ch 4. [fig. 2 – 7]

Step 3. Cut yarn, fasten off and weave in ends. [fig. 8] (14 htr sts)

Step 4. Join next colour into top of a htr & chain 1 [fig. 1]

Step 5. Work 1 sc into same stitch [fig. 2]

Step 6. Work 2 sc into each stitch around [fig. 3]

Step 7. Work 1 more sc into beginning st, and join to 1st sc with sl st. Fasten off.

Step 8. Join next colour and ch 5 (represents 1 dc & 2 ch), work 1 dc in same st.

Step 9. Work 1 dc, 1 hdc, 2 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc [fig. 2]

Step 10. Repeat steps 8 & 9 three times more. [fig. 3]

Step 11. Join with a sl st to top of 3rd chain (of ch 5) [fig. 4]

Step 12. Sl st into ch 2 space. *Work 3 dc, 2 ch, 3 dc into ch 2 space [fig. 1]

Step 13. Miss 2 sts, work 3 dc in next st, miss 2 sts, work 3 dc in next st, miss 2 sts

Step 14. Repeat from * 3 times more. [fig. 4]

Step 15. Join to top of 1st dc; fasten off and weave in ends.
